    Potty Training

I remember when I was pregnant with Alexander. I had all of these plans of what he would be doing by a specific age. Most of these plans were not realistic and did not work out. Specifically thinking that I could have him potty trained before 18 months. A baby brother and crazy work schedule later, he was 20 months and not potty trained. At this point I decided it would be best for everyone to just wait until he was ready. By the time Alexander turned 2, each diaper change required strong arms and a gas mask.  It was like he learned new acrobatics with each passing diaper change.…

    Alexander’s Monster Truck Birthday Party

Somehow between last year and this year, I forgot how much it really takes to pull together a birthday party. We were about a month out from Alex’s 3rd birthday when I started to figure out the theme and send invitations. Of course this year Alexander is obsessed with Monster Trucks, so the theme was not very hard to determine. I was on Pinterest a lot finding all of these great games and decorations that I had yet to start on 2 weeks out. When we got down to the final week before the party I was constantly putting something together for it. Goody bags, decorations, photobooth, etc. All in all, it…

Why it’s ok to go to bed angry

I remember hearing Don’t go to bed angry so much as marriage advice, but is that actually helpful? I was thinking about this the other night, Alex and I had an argument over something completely silly. We were both tired and stuck in being the one who is right.  After a few minutes of back and forth, we each gave up and went to sleep. When I woke up the following morning I did think of the argument, mostly of how unnecessary it had been, but I was not mad. I was able to clearly see Alex’s side of the argument and realize that it really shouldn’t have even turned into…

    Disciplining and Preventing Toddler Tantrums

Discipline is one of the most important, yet most difficult responsibilities we have as parents. When you find your toddler doing something they shouldn’t be, what do you do?  Here are some options that I’ve found helpful with my boys   Discipline   Redirection Redirection is quite honestly my favorite, it’s discipline in it’s friendliest form. Let’s say you are outside playing with your toddler and they find an anthill that they just have to mess with, you catch them and show that you have bubbles! Now your toddler has completely forgotten about the fun anthill they found and is excited about the bubbles. This can be applied in daily scenarios, making…

    Put your phone down, Mom

At any given moment you look around you, how many people are on their phone? How many of those people are with their kids? There are so many moments we miss as parents when we are looking at our phones, mindlessly scrolling through Facebook, Instagram, looking at DIY projects on Pinterest, whatever the case may be, put it down.  Your babies grow so quickly, don’t miss more than you have to. When we sit there staring at our phones, we are sending a message to our children that whatever is happening on that phone is more important than what is happening there with them. We reinforce this when our kids…

What to pack in your Hospital Bag

We have all seen those overwhelming, mile long lists of what you need to take to the hospital when you give birth.  When Alex and I packed for our first hospital stay we had a duffel bag and a suitcase.  We barely opened the bags.  The hospital supplied diapers, wipes, pads, mesh underwear, formula, blankets, breast pump and onesies.  Pretty much anything we really needed was supplied for us. But there are definitely still things you will need to bring. Be sure to check with your delivery hospital to see what they supply before you give birth! Birth Plan if you have one If you plan on having photos taken…

Top 10 Diaper bag Necessities for Parents of Toddlers

We have all seen those mile long lists of things that you absolutely cannot live without in your diaper bag. Some include 10 outfits and others have a full mini fridge in them, regardless, this list is meant to be simple for leaving the house prepared for a day out with toddlers.    1 spare outfit per child – Of course in cases of small babies I would certainly support more than one, but for my toddler one has been plenty. This also keeps me from creating a wormhole of clothes that I forget exist in the bag.  A snack or two – I try to keep diaper bag snacks…
